Usually lay people mention that Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, studied mainly on the software or computer software while Engineering or Information Technology is devoted to learning about the hardware or computer hardware. What is meant by software is a computer device that contains a set of instructions, programs, procedures, support, and command processing activities on the computer system. While that is a hardware or computer hardware is a tool or component of a computer that is physically tangible and can be seen or held using our human senses. Without software, hardware is just the form of electronic junk. Computer hardware will be "live" and have a function if used in conjunction with the software.
Some twenty years ago, perhaps sharing understanding between Computer Science and Information Engineering it is sufficient, but with the development of both disciplines and technologies that the understanding between Computer Science and Information Engineering also experienced significant growth. This thing we need to realize when we learn the computer in this information age.
Currently Information Engineering can be viewed as a technology that uses computers as the primary device to process data into useful information. Data processing by a computer is also known as Electronic Data Processing, which processes the data manipulation into a more useful form. Form more useful with the data processing that is referred to as information. Data is the raw material or the "raw material" that has not been processed and will be further processed using a computer. Rota now we are trying to better understand what is meant as a Computer Science. According to the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, Computer Science or Computer Science is the science that deals with computers and computing. Inside there are theorizing, experimentation, and designing components. Included in Computer Science that is matters relating to, first, theories to understand computers, programs and systems. Secondly, experiments for the development and testing of concepts. The third is a design methodology, algorithms, and tools to make it happen. While the latter, the fourth, is a method of analysis to prove that the realization is in compliance with the requirements demanded. Thus the scope and understanding of Computer Science. Is apparent that the scope and definition of Computer Science is very broad. It includes "basic science" of Mathematics and "applied science", ie the use of especially Mathematics and Physics are applied in the realm of real life.
Discussing the computer feels not complete if we do not discuss about the internet. Internet applications are increasingly global. More and more people are "Internet literacy" today. In the introductory article above also already alluded to the practical application of the Internet today. We are already so familiar with the Internet, so that sometimes we forget about a question that may be very basic, which is actually the internet?
Internet is a collection of computer network or Local Area Network into a global computer network or the World Area Network. These networks are interconnected and communicate with each other, so that each user or users can access the services provided by each network. Different computer network architecture will be able to recognize each other and can communicate using protocols. To understand this protocol, we need to study more closely the computer. Internet users, or Internet users, can utilize a wide range of information facilities at low cost. And it can be done without having to come in person to the physical service provider.
